Chinese scientists have developed ways to prolong the life of lithium-ion batteries

Mar 25, 2022

"Lithium ion battery life extension". It means extending the service life of batteries in environmentally friendly warehouses and special equipment (including electric forklifts).

One of the key problems of lithium-ion energy is that over time, the lithium they contain begins to run out. The depletion of lithium battery leads to the decrease of battery energy intensity, which affects the functional characteristics and service life of the battery. To sum up, lithium ion battery is one of the most popular, convenient and energy consuming batteries at present; They are actively used to power smartphones, laptops, electric cars and forklifts, and many other special devices.

Recently, a team of scientists from Zhejiang University of technology in China and Argonne National Laboratory in the United States have found a way to recover inactive lithium in batteries. The team has published their progress in the journal Nature energy.

The solution of China US cooperation is to use iodine for redox activities. Chemical reactions will allow the recovery of depleted lithium, extend battery life - and possibly even create new, more efficient models. Experiments have allowed the co production of a battery whose anode contains a very small amount of lithium, but its service life is estimated to be 1000 charging cycles.

Perhaps the future of electrical engineering lies in the redox reaction of iodine, including special equipment for environmental protection warehouse.
