Linde Material Handling Launches “Load-Radar” Dynamic Load Weight Estimation For 1252 X Series Counterbalance Forklifts

Sep 25, 2026

Linde Material Handling has introduced the "Load-Radar" dynamic load weight estimation system for its 1252 X series 25-ton internal combustion counterbalance forklifts, targeting steel service centers and port intermodal yards where operators must verify payload weight before transporting loaded coils or containers. Traditional forklifts provide no feedback on the actual weight of the load on the forks; operators rely on shipping manifests that may not match the actual cargo, leading to overloaded trucks that exceed their rated capacity, risk lateral tip-over, and cause premature structural fatigue to the mast and chassis.

The Load-Radar system integrates "Precision Strain Gauges" bonded to the mast's inner channel rails and "High-Accuracy Hydraulic Pressure Transducers" on the lift cylinder. The engineering breakthrough is the "Dual-Sensor Fusion Weight Algorithm." The strain gauges measure the actual structural deflection of the mast rails under the load-this deflection is linearly proportional to the load weight and is unaffected by hydraulic oil temperature or internal leakage. Simultaneously, the lift cylinder pressure transducer measures the hydraulic pressure required to hold the load, providing a secondary weight estimate that accounts for the load's center-of-gravity position relative to the forks.

The ECU fuses the two weight estimates, applying a temperature-compensated correction factor for the hydraulic reading, and displays the live payload weight to ±3 percent accuracy on the operator's dashboard. The system also features "Progressive Overload Warning": when the measured weight exceeds 95 percent of the truck's rated capacity at the current load center, the dashboard illuminates an amber warning; at 100 percent, the system audibly alarms and limits the lift cylinder's maximum pressure, preventing the operator from raising an overweight load above 500 millimeters. This real-time payload verification allows operators to confidently handle maximum-capacity loads while preventing the structural damage and tip-over risks associated with unknowingly overloading the forklift.
