Automated Guided Forklift (AGF) Shipments Rise Sharply in Global Logistics Warehousing

Mar 26, 2026

Automated guided forklifts, also known as driverless forklifts or AGFs, have become the fastest-growing segment in the global forklift industry in 2026. Driven by the rapid development of e-commerce logistics, cold chain storage, and automated factories, the demand for intelligent handling equipment has increased significantly, leading to a year-on-year increase of more than 58% in global shipments of automated forklifts.
Traditional internal combustion and electric forklifts still dominate the market in terms of total volume, but automated models are gradually replacing manual operations in standardized scenarios such as large warehouses, container terminals, and automotive manufacturing plants. These unmanned forklifts use laser navigation, visual recognition, and collaborative scheduling systems to achieve 24-hour stable operation, greatly improving handling efficiency and reducing labor costs and safety accidents.
Forklift manufacturers from Europe, Japan, and China are all increasing R&D investment in intelligent products. Some leading companies have launched integrated solutions that combine automated forklifts, warehouse management systems, and cloud platforms. Although the upfront procurement cost of automated forklifts is higher, their long-term return on investment is attractive to large logistics enterprises. With the continuous maturity of technology and the decline in component costs, automated forklifts are expected to further penetrate small and medium-sized warehouses in the next few years, profoundly changing the development pattern of the forklift industry.
