Recently, Weichai's hydrogen internal combustion engine generator set successfully achieved China's first stable grid-connected pure hydrogen power generation operation, marking a crucial step forward in the commercial application of hydrogen internal combustion engines in my country. This also contributes Weichai's strength to the construction of industrial green microgrids and supports high-quality development in the field of hydrogen energy applications.
The Weichai hydrogen internal combustion engine generator set, which is now operating in operation, is located in the Wuxi Huaguang Huaneng Microgrid Demonstration Project. This project is an industrial-grade integrated power generation, grid, load, and storage demonstration project. The Weichai unit, as the core unit of the microgrid, plays a key role in the efficient conversion of hydrogen energy and the stable supply of green electricity.
The WP13 hydrogen internal combustion engine used in this unit was custom-developed by Weichai and Wuxi Huaguang Huaneng. It successfully solved common industry problems such as limited output power and speed fluctuations caused by unstable hydrogen combustion. The product's speed fluctuation is precisely controlled within ±3 r/min, fully meeting the stringent requirements of grid-connected power generation with high stability. This establishes a key link for the local consumption of industrial by-product hydrogen and provides solid technical support for the high-quality construction of the local zero-carbon industrial park.
This successful grid connection demonstrates Weichai's commitment to building a complete green energy application model for its hydrogen internal combustion engine generator sets, encompassing "hydrogen energy conversion - clean power generation - grid connection and consumption," providing a replicable practical example for the commercial application of hydrogen power generation.
As a pioneer in the research and application of hydrogen internal combustion engines, Weichai, in collaboration with China National Heavy Duty Truck Group (CNHTC), launched the nation's first commercially available heavy-duty truck powered by a hydrogen internal combustion engine, pioneering the application path of hydrogen internal combustion engines in the commercial vehicle sector. In the future, Weichai will focus on diverse application scenarios in transportation, energy, and construction machinery, launching more economical and reliable overall solutions for hydrogen internal combustion engines. Driven by technological innovation, Weichai will accelerate the development of the entire hydrogen energy industry chain, propelling itself towards a new journey of green and zero-carbon development.
