Water entering the hydraulic system, engine, electrical system, and cab will cause short circuit, oil deterioration, and component rust. Salt spray in coastal areas will accelerate the corrosion of structural parts and fasteners. This guide provides a complete set of waterproof, anti-corrosion, and dredging-specific maintenance measures to prolong the service life of excavators in water and dredging conditions.

Whole machine waterproof and anti-seepage transformation is the primary task. The engine compartment, hydraulic pump compartment, and electrical control box should be equipped with waterproof baffles and sealing strips to prevent splashing water and sludge from entering. The wiring harness connectors, sensors, and controllers adopt waterproof connectors with a protection level of IP67 or above, and wrap them with waterproof tape. The air intake pipe of the engine is raised to a high position to avoid water inhalation during dredging. The exhaust pipe is equipped with a waterproof check valve to prevent water backflow.

Hydraulic system waterproof and anti-pollution maintenance. Water entering the hydraulic oil will cause emulsification, deterioration, and wear of the hydraulic pump, valve, and cylinder, resulting in action failure and oil leakage. Check the sealing of the hydraulic cylinder, pipeline, and joint daily; replace the damaged oil seal and hose in time. Use waterproof dust covers on the hydraulic cylinder rod to prevent water and sediment from entering. Engine waterproof and anti-water intake protection. Check the tightness of the engine oil seal and cylinder head gasket daily to prevent water from entering the oil duct causing emulsification. The engine oil radiator and fuel radiator should be kept clean to avoid blockage by sludge. Drain water from the fuel water separator every day to ensure the normal operation of the fuel system.

Electrical system anti-corrosion and moisture-proof protection. Coastal salt spray and water mist will corrode the battery, wiring harness, and electronic components, causing short circuit and poor contact. Clean the battery terminals regularly and apply anti-corrosion grease. The electrical box is kept sealed and equipped with a moisture-proof agent to prevent condensation. Check the insulation of the wiring harness daily; replace the aged and damaged parts in time. Avoid exposing the electrical components to water and salt spray for a long time.

Chassis and undercarriage anti-corrosion and anti-sediment maintenance. The track frame, supporting wheel, idler wheel, and drive wheel are immersed in water and mud for a long time, which is easy to rust and wear. Clean the sediment and sludge on the chassis and track system daily with high-pressure water. Lubricate the supporting wheel, idler wheel, and drive wheel with waterproof and anti-corrosion grease every shift to prevent water intrusion and rust. Check the floating oil seal of the supporting wheel regularly; replace it immediately if it is damaged to prevent sediment from entering.

Structural parts and fastener anti-corrosion protection. Salt spray and water corrosion will cause rust and cracking of the boom, arm, bucket, and frame. Clean the whole machine daily and dry it properly. Reapply anti-corrosion paint on the scratched and rusted parts in time. Apply anti-rust grease on the bolt and nut connections to prevent rust and seizure. For coastal dredging projects, additional anti-corrosion coating can be applied to key structural parts to enhance protection.

Cab waterproof and operator environment protection. The cab door and window sealing strips should be kept intact to prevent water and sludge from entering. The cab floor is equipped with a waterproof mat to keep the interior dry. Check the instrument and control system daily for water damage; dry and maintain them in time. The cab air conditioning system should be kept smooth to avoid moisture and mildew.

Dredging operation specifications reduce water and sediment intrusion. Control the diving depth of the excavator, and do not exceed the waterproof height of the chassis. Avoid sudden steering and impact in the water to prevent water splashing into the engine compartment and electrical system. When not working for a short time, park the excavator on a high and dry place to avoid long-term immersion in water. After dredging operation, carry out a comprehensive cleaning and anti-corrosion treatment of the whole machine immediately.

Regular waterproof and anti-corrosion maintenance cycle. Conduct a daily waterproof inspection, focusing on sealing, oil emulsification, and electrical corrosion. Conduct a comprehensive anti-corrosion maintenance every week, including cleaning, lubrication, rust removal, and paint repair. Conduct a thorough hydraulic oil and engine oil replacement every month, and check the sealing performance of the whole machine.

Emergency treatment for water ingress. If water enters the engine or hydraulic system accidentally, stop the machine immediately and do not restart. Drain the water and deteriorated oil, clean the system, replace the oil and filter element, and check the component wear before putting it into use again.
