Augmented reality technology can help the construction industry attract workers

May 12, 2022

According to a report by GlobalData, giving construction workers access to technologies such as augmented reality (AR) can not only combat soaring resource costs, but also help attract young people to construction work.

The report shows that about 55% of construction executives surveyed by GlobalData at the end of 2021 intend to invest in AR in the next two years, but a third have no plans to buy the technology.

GlobalData predicts that the industry will grow from $9 billion in 2021 to $152 billion in 2030. This not only shows its popularity as a product, but also shows its resource advantages. Specifically for the construction industry, the GlobalData report identifies several emerging ar use cases with great potential.

Robert penman, an analyst with the GlobalData theme research team, said: "Due to the large number of operators who can use these equipment, AR will be particularly useful in the construction phase of the project. Ar enables building models to be located on site through headphones or smart glasses, so they can be compared with the construction site. Before further work occurs, users will easily notice errors, avoiding unnecessary rework and the use of additional expensive materials.

"The more complex mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) elements a project requires, the more benefits the project will derive from ar."
