Doosan Infracore Launches “Smart Guidance” for Full-Scale Excavator Automation

Jul 03, 2026

Doosan Infracore has introduced its new "Smart Guidance" system for the DX225LC-5 and DX300LC-5 excavator series, bringing factory-integrated 3D automation to the 20-30 ton class. The system utilizes dual GNSS antennas mounted on the cab roof and multiple IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit) sensors attached to the boom, stick, and bucket cylinders. This sensor array calculates the precise position of the bucket teeth in real-time, comparing it against a digital terrain model uploaded to the in-cab display.

A key engineering feature of the Smart Guidance system is its "Bucket Boundary Control." In traditional digging, operators must constantly monitor the bucket position to avoid over-digging or hitting buried utilities. Doosan's system creates an electronic "fence" around the designated digging zone. If the bucket approaches the boundary limit, the system automatically intervenes via the electro-hydraulic control valves, reducing the flow to the boom-down or stick-in functions, effectively stopping the bucket before it breaches the design profile.

Furthermore, the system features an "Angle Assist" for slope finishing. Instead of manually calculating the angle of the stick and boom to create a 2:1 slope, the operator simply inputs the target angle into the interface. The machine then automatically controls the boom and stick coordination to maintain the perfect slope angle as the bucket travels through the cut. This decouples the operator's skill level from the final grade quality, allowing novice operators to achieve expert-level slope finishes while reducing the need for manual rework and grade checkers.
