Through cooperation with well-known companies at home and abroad in the field of automobile and technology, idealworks has developed a synthetic artificial intelligence data set "industrial synthetic object recognition data set" (sordi). The Munich based start-up announced the news in a press release. According to the released information, the data set consists of more than 800000 realistic images of production resources in 80 categories, including objects particularly related to the core technologies of automobile manufacturing and logistics.

Designed for industrial environments

Idealworks, together with long-term partners NVIDIA, Microsoft and the Munich Technology Office of BMW Group, is releasing sordi, which claims to be the world's largest artificial intelligence reference data set in manufacturing. Specially designed for manufacturing, production and other industrial environments, it greatly speeds up the training of neural network for equipment recognition in factory environment and makes it more efficient.

BMW Group has been using AI in its production system since 2019

Michele melchiorre, director of production systems, planning, tools and factory engineering of BMW Group, said: "AI has been effectively used for quality assurance in various applications in our factory. The new synthetic data set sordi allows AI models to be trained faster, which helps to significantly improve the cost efficiency of AI in production“

The rendering pipeline of BMW technical office in Munich ensures the automatic creation of any number of synthetic images with photo realistic HD quality, including labels, which in turn enables the artificial intelligence model to be realized with high robustness. In addition, the tags integrated as digital tags can realize the basic industrial image processing tasks in related production fields, such as classification, object recognition or segmentation. Idealworks said that the simulation environment of the robot, the digital twin of the production system and the artificial intelligence training environment are integrated in "NVIDIA Omniverse", so that artificial intelligence can be created based on the synthetic data, with little need for artificial intelligence. Synthetic artificial intelligence based on sordi is used in all technologies.

"At idealworks, we use this algorithm to develop, simulate and protect our autonomous mobile robot 'IW. Hub'. We deliberately add resources such as pulleys or shelves, which play an important role in the further development of our AMR," explained Jimmy Nassif, CTO of idealworks

Marc Kamradt, director of BMW Munich technical office, added: "sordi allows us to train an AI backbone for production, providing a personalized basis for our specialized AI applications in production."

He said that this open source data set also makes it easier for manufacturers to operate, provide them with mature AI systems and provide timely support before production starts. He also said that it will also help it experts develop and customize AI solutions. According to idealworks, sordi will soon be available to software developers through GitHub.
