On November 30, 2021, Sinopec held a cloud launch ceremony in Beijing, Urumqi and Kuqa, Xinjiang, announcing that China's first 10000 ton photovoltaic green hydrogen demonstration project - Sinopec Xinjiang Kuqa green hydrogen demonstration project was officially launched. It is the largest photovoltaic green hydrogen production project under construction in the world, with an annual output of 20000 tons of green hydrogen after being put into operation.
Ma Yongsheng, chairman and party secretary of Sinopec, and Elken tuniyaz, acting chairman of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, attended the ceremony and delivered speeches. The settlement of the first green hydrogen demonstration project in Kuqa, Xinjiang is not only an important content of comprehensively promoting strategic cooperation between the two sides, but also a specific action to implement the spirit of the third central Xinjiang work symposium and the Eighth National counterpart support Xinjiang work conference. The first large-scale hydrogen production project using photovoltaic power generation in China
The total investment of Xinjiang Kuqa green hydrogen demonstration project is nearly 3 billion yuan, mainly including photovoltaic power generation, power transmission and transformation, electrolytic water hydrogen production, hydrogen storage and hydrogen transmission.
A photovoltaic power station with an installed capacity of 300 MW and an average annual power generation of 618 million kwh will be built, an electrolytic water hydrogen plant with an annual capacity of 20000 tons will be built, a hydrogen storage spherical tank with a hydrogen storage capacity of about 210000 standard cubic meters will be built, a hydrogen transmission pipeline with a hydrogen transmission capacity of 28000 standard cubic meters per hour and a set of power transmission and transformation facilities will be built. The project is expected to be completed and put into operation in June 2023, and the produced green hydrogen will be supplied to Sinopec Tahe refinery to replace the existing natural gas fossil energy for hydrogen production. It is estimated that the annual carbon dioxide emission can be reduced by 485000 tons, which will contribute 130 million yuan to the local GDP and create more than 18 million yuan of tax revenue.
Xinjiang Kuqa green hydrogen demonstration project has four advantages: rich resources, green low carbon, large-scale application and technological breakthrough. It is the first typical demonstration project of Sinopec through the whole process of green hydrogen production and utilization, such as wind power generation, green power transmission, green power hydrogen production, hydrogen storage, hydrogen transportation and green hydrogen refining.
After the project is put into operation, it will create a new development path of green hydrogen refining and chemical industry, which has a significant demonstration effect on refining and chemical enterprises to realize carbon emission reduction by using green hydrogen on a large scale. Meanwhile, all major equipment, machinery and core materials will be localized, and all major equipment, machinery and core materials used in the project, such as photovoltaic modules, electrolytic water hydrogen production "heart" electrolytic cells, hydrogen storage tanks and hydrogen transmission pipelines, will be localized, which is of great significance to promote the rapid development of domestic hydrogen production equipment industry.
