Hydraulic Maintenance Knowledge | Must See For Cooling! Three Key Points For Autumn Maintenance Of Oil Cylinders

Oct 23, 2025

The cool autumn breeze, increasing temperature difference between day and night, and gradually decreasing air humidity pose new challenges to the smooth operation of hydraulic systems. As the power source of construction machinery, the precise operation of hydraulic cylinders directly affects work efficiency and safety.

PART.1

Cleaning first: eliminate hidden dangers and prevent corrosion

In autumn, there is an increase in sandstorms and fallen leaves, making it easy for dust and impurities to adhere to the surface of the oil cylinder. If not cleaned in a timely manner, it may enter the hydraulic system with the movement of the piston, causing seal wear or oil circuit blockage.

1. After daily homework, wipe the exposed part of the oil cylinder with a clean soft cloth, focusing on cleaning the dirt and water stains on the surface of the piston rod

2. Regularly check whether the dust ring is intact. If any damage is found, it should be replaced immediately to prevent particles from entering.

3. Avoid using chemical solvents for direct cleaning to prevent corrosion of surface coatings

PART.2

Seal inspection: Details determine lifespan

The "lifeline" of the sealing oil cylinder, large temperature differences in autumn can easily cause rubber parts to harden or shrink, leading to the risk of oil leakage.

1. Observe whether there are oil stains seeping out from the piston rod of the oil cylinder. If oil leakage is found, disassemble and check the sealing ring status.

2. Focus on checking the elasticity of O-rings, Y-rings, and dust seals. If cracks or deformations occur, they should be replaced in a timely manner.

When replacing the seal, ensure that the model matches and apply an appropriate amount of hydraulic oil for lubrication to avoid installation damage.

PART.3

Temperature control: Avoid extreme working conditions

There is a large temperature difference between morning and evening in autumn, and the oil cylinder needs to be preheated when starting in a low-temperature environment to avoid internal stress concentration caused by high load operation of the refrigeration unit.

Under low temperature conditions (<5 ¡æ), start the equipment and run it at low speed without load for 5-10 minutes. Wait for the oil temperature to rise above 20 ¡æ before normal operation.

2. Avoid long-term overload operation to prevent sudden increase in internal pressure of the oil cylinder from causing seal failure or cylinder deformation.

When stopping, retract the piston rod into the cylinder body to reduce the risk of environmental erosion on the exposed parts.
