Hamm, a Wirtgen Group company, continues to position the H 13i as the anchor of its i-Series single-drum compactor range - an approximately 12.6-to-12.9-ton operating-weight machine with a 2.14-meter (84.3-inch) drum width and a 115-kW (154-hp) four-cylinder diesel engine, designed for soil and asphalt compaction on granular and mixed soils, road subgrades, and industrial foundations where both compaction depth and surface quality determine productivity. The H 13i's smooth drum is available in the manufacturer's proven "VIO" configuration, which is the machine's distinguishing engineering feature.
The VIO dual-action drum combines conventional vibration and oscillation compaction in a single drum. In the vibration mode, the drum's eccentric shaft generates the vertical centrifugal force that produces deep soil compaction - the classic compaction action for granular soils and thick lifts. In the oscillation mode, the drum's eccentric system generates an oscillating, torsional force that keeps the drum in continuous contact with the ground while producing a horizontal shearing action that compacts and seals the surface - an advantage on thin lifts, asphalt layers, and soils prone to over-compaction or crushing. Combined with dual frequencies and amplitudes selected from the operator's display, the H 13i VIO spans the full range of soil and asphalt compaction requirements in a single machine.
The machine's "Hammtronic" electronic drive-control system manages the engine, drive, and vibration circuits as an integrated whole, delivering maximum power at minimum fuel consumption while protecting the driveline against overload. Integrated "ASC" (automatic speed control) maintains a constant compaction speed regardless of ground conditions, freeing the operator to focus on steering and overlap control rather than throttle management. Combined with the "Easy Drive" operating system that simplifies machine control through intuitive lever and dial layouts, and an optional HCQ (Hamm Compaction Quality) documentation system that maps compaction passes and identifies soft spots in real time, the H 13i positions itself as a direct competitor to the Bomag BW 213 D-5, Caterpillar CS54, and Dynapac CA2500D in the global 12-ton single-drum compactor segment.
