Focusing on carbon reduction in the whole industrial chain, the industry discusses the path of low-carbon transformation of enterprises

Jul 20, 2022

Sustainable development has become a global topic, and China's carbon reduction action is also accelerating. For enterprises, carbon reduction is not only a survival problem, but also a development problem. Recently, Schneider Electric's Innovation Summit of "digital empowerment and whole process carbon reduction" was held online. Industry experts discussed issues such as carbon reduction in the whole industry chain and enterprise operation logic in the era of dual carbon.

Fan Gang, vice president of China Economic System Reform Research Association, said that double carbon is the general trend. Low carbon transformation is not only a national responsibility, but also to consider economic development. We should not only pay attention to short-term goals, but also establish the idea of long-term difficulties.

For enterprises, opportunities and challenges coexist in low-carbon transformation. Zhou Changyi, former director of the Department of energy conservation and comprehensive utilization of the Ministry of industry and information technology, said, "the relevant laws, regulations and standards of the government will continue to improve, and the requirements of the industrial chain for carbon reduction will become increasingly stringent. Backward enterprises will face the risk of losing market opportunities."

According to the calculation of the Institute of climate change of Tsinghua University, in order to achieve the goal of controlling global warming at 2 ℃ and 1.5 ℃ proposed in the Paris Agreement, the investment cost required for the transformation of China's energy system alone will reach between 100 trillion yuan and 138 trillion yuan. "The essence of the dual carbon goal is to occupy the commanding height of the green economy and force China's economy to move towards a high-quality development path, which will undoubtedly create huge market opportunities." Li Zheng, executive vice president of the Institute of climate change and sustainable development of Tsinghua University and Secretary General of the world university climate change alliance, said.

As carbon reduction enters the practical stage, the focus of all walks of life has changed from why to how. For the problems faced by many enterprises in the process of carbon reduction, such as unclear ideas and lack of technical capabilities, Xiong Yi, senior vice president of Schneider Electric and head of strategy and business development China, suggested that "starting from the top-level planning, combine the carbon reduction goal with the company's strategy and main business, and formulate specific steps to gradually achieve the carbon reduction goal."

"Facing the dual carbon goal, enterprises should first think about how to promote low-carbon transformation while ensuring the development and growth of business, and also consider how to promote the collaborative carbon reduction of the entire industrial chain." Yin Zheng, global executive vice president of Schneider Electric and President of China, said, "only such enterprises can become pioneers in the double carbon era."
