Hyundai HL940 Z-Bar Wheel Loader Targets Construction Aggregate with Cummins Power and ZF Transmission

Oct 15, 2026

Hyundai Construction Equipment continues to position the HL940 as the anchor of its 900-Series mid-size wheel loader lineup - a roughly 13-ton operating-weight machine targeting construction aggregate, general contracting, and industrial yard work where cycle speed, durability, and fuel economy determine fleet profitability. Powered by a Cummins B6.7 six-cylinder diesel engine meeting Tier 4 Final emissions compliance, the HL940 delivers approximately 125 kW (168 hp) net power, paired with a ZF 4-speed powershift transmission with optional lock-up clutch for improved fuel economy during travel phases of the load-and-carry cycle.

The machine's "Z-bar" linkage geometry - Hyundai's interpretation of the classic Z-bar configuration - delivers a strong parallel lift characteristic throughout the boom's range, keeping the bucket angle constant as the arms lift. This reduces material spillage during truck loading and improves load retention when traveling across uneven ground. Hyundai's bucket design features an innovative wider opening, curved side plates, and an enhanced spill guard to maximize bucket capacity and reduce material loss when traveling; key structural areas of the bucket use HARDOX 400 wear-resistant steel, extending bucket life in abrasive aggregate applications.

The HL940's redesigned cab - larger than the previous-generation 9A Series cab - provides added floor space, improved visibility, and easier machine access. In-cab sound levels are reduced by 3 dB(A) compared to the previous generation, and cab amenities include an interactive touch-screen monitor, optional finger-tip controls, heated air-ride seat, and improved climate-control system. An optional Smart Start ignition system supports password- and Bluetooth-key-enabled starting for fleet-shared machines. Hyundai's enhanced hydraulic system delivers faster cycle times and, according to the manufacturer, up to 10 percent lower fuel consumption compared with the previous 9A Series. Combined with Hyundai's expanding global dealer network and reinforced structural design validated through Hyundai's rigid cycle, heat, vibration, and shock-load testing, the HL940 positions itself as a cost-competitive alternative to the Caterpillar 930M, Komatsu WA320, and Volvo L90 in the global 13-ton wheel loader segment.
