Kalmar DCG180 Heavy Forklift Targets Port, Pulp-and-Paper, and Heavy-Industry Applications with 18-Ton Lift Capability

Oct 12, 2026

Kalmar, a Cargotec company, positions the DCG90-180 series as its intermediate heavy forklift range - 9-to-18-ton capacity machines designed for port applications, pulp-and-paper mills, metals processing, and logistics hubs where container, bale, coil, and oversized palletized loads must be handled beyond the reach of standard 3-to-5-ton warehouse trucks. The DCG180 offers full rated capacity throughout its lift range, with maximum lift heights to 7 meters on duplex/duplex free-lift or triplex mast configurations - allowing ground-level stacking in open yards as well as storage in conventional racking systems.

The machine's defining engineering feature is the "180-degree rotatable operator seat," which allows the operator to rotate the seat to face the direction of travel when driving forward or in reverse. In applications where the forklift must travel long distances in reverse - constrained yards, port aprons, and racking aisles - this configuration is invaluable: rearward seating eliminates neck twisting and reduces operator fatigue over extended reverse-travel shifts. Combined with a reversible cooling fan that blows high-pressure air across the radiator's fins, the DCG180 maintains cooling system cleanliness in dusty port and demolition environments where continuous heavy lifting would otherwise overheat the powertrain.

The machine's integrated "sideshifter and fork positioner" allows the operator to move the entire attachment laterally (sideshift) and to adjust the fork spacing independently (fork positioning) - making the handling of non-standard loads such as coils and bales fast and precise. The DCG range is available with Cummins and Volvo engine options delivering best-in-class power output with significantly reduced overall fuel consumption - a key consideration in continuous heavy-duty applications where fuel cost is the dominant operating expense. Combined with optional cab air conditioning, additional LED lighting, and Kalmar's established service reputation in port forklift support, the DCG180 positions itself as a cost-effective alternative in the 18-ton heavy forklift segment against the Hyster H360-520, Konecranes heavy trucks, and Toyota Tonero heavy range.
