Jungheinrich EFG 425 Electric Counterbalance Forklift Delivers Two Shifts Per Charge with Synchronous Reluctance Motor Technology

Oct 09, 2026

Jungheinrich's EFG 425-435 series represents the manufacturer's flagship four-wheel electric counterbalance forklift range, spanning 2.5-to-3.5-ton capacities and lift heights to 7.5 meters. The EFG 425 - the 2.5-ton model - is powered by an 80-volt electrical architecture driving a synchronous reluctance motor that delivers high torque density with reduced internal heat generation compared to traditional AC induction designs. Combined with three-phase AC technology and regenerative braking that returns energy to the battery during deceleration, the machine is engineered to run two full shifts on a single battery charge in typical warehouse duty cycles - a productivity metric that directly determines fleet sizing and charging-infrastructure requirements.

The EFG series' defining safety system is "curveCONTROL" - an automatically activated travel-speed-reduction function that slows the truck proportionally to steering-wheel angle when cornering. Rather than a fixed speed cap, curveCONTROL provides progressive speed limiting that adapts to each turn's tightness, reducing lateral tip-over risk when carrying loads at height or negotiating 90-degree aisle turns at speed. The machine's automatic parking brake engages whenever the operator leaves the seat, eliminating the "parking brake forgotten" failure mode that has historically contributed to unattended-truck rollaway incidents. Hydraulic function deactivation when the operator is unseated provides a further safeguard against inadvertent implement movement.

The EFG 425's operator environment features a full-suspension, three-way-adjustable seat, a three-way-adjustable armrest with integrated USB power, and approximately three square feet of storage space. The cab's narrow B-pillar design and panoramic roof window maximize all-round visibility - a key advantage in high-rack warehouse environments where overhead clearance and rack-face visibility directly influence productivity. Maintenance-free wet disc brakes sealed against dust and moisture eliminate the periodic brake-shoe replacement and drum adjustment that traditional dry-brake systems require, reducing scheduled maintenance labor over the machine's lifecycle. A lithium-ion battery option with fast-charging capability extends the machine's suitability to multi-shift operations where opportunity charging during breaks can replace full battery-swap infrastructure. Combined with Jungheinrich's integrated telematics and fleet-management platform, the EFG 425-435 series positions itself against the Linde E20-25 and Toyota 8FB series in the competitive 2.5-ton electric counterbalance segment.
