Case Equipment Introduces “Lithium-Ready” R-Series Reach Trucks

Aug 13, 2026

Case Equipment Group has launched the "Lithium-Ready" R-Series reach trucks. In cold chain logistics (freezer warehouses at -25°C), battery efficiency drops significantly. Traditional lead-acid batteries lose up to 40% of their capacity in freezing temperatures. The R-Series is engineered specifically for the high-voltage architecture of Lithium-Iron-Phosphate (LiFePO4) batteries.

The engineering highlight is the "Bi-Directional Energy Recovery." Traditional reach trucks only recover energy during braking. The R-Series adds a "Lowering Regeneration" module. When the forks are lowered, the weight of the carriage and load drives the lift motor in reverse (acting as a generator). This energy is fed back into the Li-Ion battery.

Crucially, the system features a "Cold-Start Pre-Heat." The battery management system (BMS) monitors the cell temperature. If the forklift is parked in the freezer and the temperature drops below -10°C, the system activates a "Standby Heating Circuit." This circuit warms the battery cells to an optimal 15°C before high-current discharge is allowed. This prevents "Lithium Plating," a permanent degradation mechanism that occurs when charging frozen batteries. Additionally, the truck uses "Low-Temp Hydraulic Fluid" and sealed joystick controllers with internal heaters, ensuring the operator can still control the fine movements needed for pallet racking, even in sub-zero conditions.
