Linde Material Handling Launches “Rack-Valet” Fleet Management Software

Aug 15, 2026

Linde Material Handling has released the "Rack-Valet" fleet management software solution for its entire range of electric forklifts. In large logistics centers, managing the interaction between forklifts and pedestrians is a major safety challenge. Traditional safety systems rely on the operator's vigilance, which can fail due to fatigue.

The Rack-Valet system uses "Ultra-Wideband" (UWB) technology. Small "Beacon Tags" are worn by pedestrians (on vests or hard hats), and "UWB Anchors" are installed on the forklift. The system measures the distance between the forklift and the pedestrian with an accuracy of ±10 cm.

The key engineering innovation is "Predictive Braking." The system calculates the relative speed of the forklift and the pedestrian. If the system predicts that the distance will close to less than 1 meter within the next 2 seconds, it triggers a "Safety Intervention." It automatically cuts the traction motor and applies the electromagnetic service brake, bringing the forklift to a stop before contact occurs.

Furthermore, the system features "Digital Geo-Zone Mapping." The warehouse floor plan is uploaded to the forklift ECU. The system creates "Virtual Zones." For example, in the "Pedestrian Crossing Zone" near the break room, the system automatically limits the forklift speed to 3 km/h, regardless of the accelerator input. In the "High-Speed Aisle," it allows full speed. This "digital governance" reduces accident rates by 60% and optimizes traffic flow, allowing warehouse managers to increase the number of forklifts operating simultaneously without congestion.
