XCMG Road Machinery has introduced the "Layer-By-Layer" intelligent compaction control system for its XS203 series single drum vibratory rollers. In high-speed railway subgrade construction, achieving uniform soil density is critical. Traditional compaction relies on the operator's memory to count passes, often leading to "over-compaction" (turning the soil into dust) or "missed spots" (soft spots).
The system integrates a high-precision "GNSS Receiver" and a "Compaction Meter" on the drum. The system creates a "Digital Site Map" on the in-cab display. As the roller moves, the screen displays a color-coded map of the compaction status: Red for loose soil, Yellow for medium density, and Green for target density.
The engineering highlight is the "Automatic Pass Counting Logic." The system divides the work area into a grid of 1-meter squares. Every time the roller drum passes over a square, the system automatically records a "Pass Count." When a specific area reaches the target density and the set number of passes (e.g., 8 passes), the system automatically turns the vibration "OFF" for that specific zone via the hydraulic controller, even if the operator is still driving over it. This prevents over-compaction. Furthermore, the system features "Real-Time Stiffness Feedback." The compaction meter uses an accelerometer to measure the rebound of the drum. If the stiffness value rises rapidly, the system alerts the operator that the soil is hardening, allowing for immediate adjustment of amplitude to prevent machine bouncing.
