XCMG Introduces “Active Damping” Boom System for Firefighting Vehicles

XCMG Firefighting Equipment Division has released the "Active Damping" boom system for its new JP72 series high-platform firefighting trucks. When fighting fires in high-rise buildings, the water flow reaction force and wind can cause the long telescopic boom to oscillate, making it difficult for the rescue cage to dock safely at the window.

The Active Damping system uses a "Tri-Axial MEMS Accelerometer" mounted on the rescue cage platform. This sensor detects the horizontal acceleration (sway) of the boom tip. A dedicated controller processes this data and sends signals to the "Electronic Proportional Valves" controlling the boom telescoping and luffing cylinders.

The core engineering breakthrough is the "Anti-Phase Oscillation Logic." When the sensor detects the boom swaying to the left, the system instantaneously commands the luffing cylinder to push the boom slightly right, generating an opposing force. This active cancellation reduces the oscillation amplitude by 70% within 3 seconds.

Furthermore, the system integrates a "Water-Flow Reaction Compensation" module. When the firefighter activates the water monitor (cannon), the system measures the water pressure and flow rate. It pre-emptively adjusts the boom angle to counteract the recoil force of the water jet. This keeps the platform stable without manual correction from the operator. The system also features a "Soft-Docking" mode, where the boom movement speed is reduced to 0.05 m/s for the final meter of approach, ensuring safe contact with the building facade during rescue operations.
