Zoomlion Heavy Industry Unveils “Smart-Climb” Safety System for Tower Cranes

Aug 10, 2026

Zoomlion Heavy Industry has officially launched the "Smart-Climb" intelligent safety control system for its T series hammerhead and luffing jib tower cranes. In the construction of skyscrapers exceeding 400 meters, wind speeds at altitude can be significantly higher than at ground level, creating unpredictable "wind shear" that destabilizes the load. Traditional anemometers only measure local wind speed and cannot predict the dynamic load swing caused by gusts.

The Smart-Climb system integrates a "Distributed Wind Speed Sensing Array" on the boom tip, counterweight, and operator cab. This creates a 3D wind field model. The core engineering innovation is the "Predictive Anti-Swing Algorithm." Using a Kalman filter, the system predicts the pendulum trajectory of the load 3 seconds into the future based on current wind acceleration. If a gust is detected approaching the boom tip, the system pre-emptively adjusts the luffing angle (raising the boom) to reduce the effective moment arm, thereby decreasing the wind area and stabilizing the load.

Furthermore, the system features "Intelligent Collision Avoidance in Multi-Crane Zones." In dense construction sites where multiple cranes overlap, the system uses UWB (Ultra-Wideband) positioning to track the real-time 3D position of surrounding cranes' booms and hooks. It creates a "Dynamic Safety Envelope." If a collision path is predicted, the system automatically overrides the operator's input and applies a "Soft Stop" (gradual deceleration) to the slewing and trolley mechanisms, preventing wire rope entanglement. This active intervention reduces reliance on operator reaction time, significantly enhancing safety in congested urban environments.
