Bomag GmbH has launched the upgraded "Terrameter" 2.0 documentation system for its BW205 series tandem rollers. In major highway projects, proving that the asphalt was compacted at the correct temperature and density is a contractual requirement. Traditional systems recorded data but required manual download via USB drives, which was slow and prone to data loss.
The Terrameter 2.0 integrates a "4G LTE Modem" directly into the roller's dashboard. All compaction data-pass count, amplitude, frequency, and speed-is uploaded to the "Bomag Cloud" in real-time. The engineering core is the "Infrared Temperature Matrix." The system uses two "Pyrometers" (non-contact thermometers) mounted on the front and rear drums.
These sensors create a "Thermal Map" of the asphalt mat. If the temperature drops below the optimal compaction window (e.g., below 110°C for asphalt), the system triggers an alarm on the paver, signaling them to lay more mix or adjust the speed. Crucially, the system uses "GPS Fusion." It combines standard GPS with "RTK Correction" signals, achieving positioning accuracy of 2 cm. This allows the system to plot the exact location of every pass on a site map. The site manager can view this map on a tablet in the site office. If a "missed strip" (gap) is detected, the manager can instantly radio the roller operator to cover that area. This real-time visibility reduces rework and ensures 100% coverage documentation.
