Hyundai Heavy Industries has introduced the "Blue-Cursor" navigation system for its BR15 series reach trucks. In cold storage warehouses (below -20°C), operators work in thick clothing and gloves, making it difficult to judge distances and align forks precisely with rack pallets at heights of 10 meters. Misalignment can damage the rack structure.
The Blue-Cursor system uses a "3D Time-of-Flight Camera" mounted on the fork carriage. This camera creates a depth map of the pallet opening. The system calculates the "Pallet Pocket Center." The engineering highlight is the "Automatic Height & Reach Assist." When the operator approaches the rack, the system identifies the target slot. If the forks are slightly misaligned (e.g., 5 cm to the left), the system automatically activates the "Side-Shift Cylinder" to center the forks.
Furthermore, the system features a "Projected Cursor." A laser projector mounted on the carriage projects a blue "crosshair" onto the pallet slats. The operator simply steers the truck until the laser crosshair aligns with the pallet center line. This visual guide eliminates the need for the operator to constantly look back and forth between the forks and the display screen.
Crucially, the system includes a "Cold-Battery Protection Logic." If the camera detects the truck is stationary (waiting for a slot), the system reduces the voltage to the hydraulic pump motor, minimizing internal heating. This preserves battery capacity, which is critical in freezing environments where batteries deplete faster.
