As 2025 draws to a close, global articulated dump truck sales figures for the year are available, projected to exceed 9,000 units, a slight decrease from the total of 10,300 units sold across all brands in 2024.
Globally, while some markets experienced contraction, such as North America, currently the region with the largest demand for articulated trucks, sales in regions like the UK, Africa, and Italy bucked the trend and grew.
In September 2021, Motherwell, Scotland witnessed the birth of the articulated dump truck brand Rokbak, marking the beginning of a new journey.
Since its rebranding four years ago, Rokbak has been committed to building a unique brand image centered on robust and reliable products, customer commitment, and distinctive brand recognition.
"When we launched the brand, we already had a mature product line, but launching any new brand always carries a certain risk," admitted Jacqueline Reed, Head of Marketing, Communications, and Product Management at Rockback. "However, we not only received strong support from the Volvo Group, but also had a clear understanding of our own positioning and core philosophy, thus successfully shaping a brand connotation that fully reflects the company spirit, employee value, and product characteristics. Since establishing our core strategic areas for our clients, we have continued to deepen and evolve our brand philosophy."
Entering 2025, despite a decline in global articulated truck sales, the past year was still a success for OEM Rockback. Product quality has been recognized by customers-construction companies continue to repurchase the brand's articulated trucks due to their reliability and low fuel consumption.
This year saw a surge in large-scale orders (such as the sale of 25 RA30s to a US infrastructure contractor) and successful expansion into the North American market through new dealer partnerships.
In 2025, Rockback continues to strengthen its European dealer network according to its expansion plan. This articulated truck manufacturer has partnered with DIR International Trading in Spain and Portugal, and Idromac in Italy.
Demand in the Italian market has steadily increased since 2021, with an average annual growth rate of approximately 10%, and sales of all brands of articulated trucks nationwide are projected to exceed 100 units by 2025.
Another highlight in Europe is the expansion of its Northern Ireland distributor, Sleator Plant: through a €1.2 million investment in a new specialized warehouse north of Dublin, its service network now covers the entire Irish market, significantly enhancing customer service coverage and support capabilities.
Similar successes are happening at the headquarters of this Scottish manufacturer: 2025 marks the 75th anniversary of the Rockback Motherwell factory's illustrious manufacturing history.
Since its establishment in 1950, this site has consistently driven industry innovation, fostered a passionate workforce, and proudly manufactures some of the world's toughest articulated dump trucks.
The company recently received the "Scotland Made Award" for its outstanding contributions to manufacturing, thus being shortlisted for the "British Made Award."
High Uptime Earns Trust from Aggregate Industry Customers
These trucks, designed and manufactured in Scotland, are delivering tangible value to customers in some of the world's most demanding operating conditions, thanks to their superior performance.
In Canada, three Rockbucks RA40 articulated trucks transport tens of thousands of tons of topsoil, sand, and gravel aggregate weekly.
Owner Brandon Boden praised their exceptional ability to handle various geological and weather conditions: "In this industry, uptime is everything. We need simple, reliable equipment. Rockbucks articulated trucks are real-robust, fuel-efficient, and hassle-free. Their consistent reliability, even under heavy use, is what ensures we deliver on our promises to our customers."
In a residential development project in Utah, USA, three RA30 trucks have also received praise for their low fuel consumption and high uptime.
A RA30 at a quarry in Northern Ireland has fueled continued business success thanks to its high productivity. Quarry manager Colin Lockland commented, "As a manager, I know how crucial it is to choose the right equipment. We need reliability-the less downtime the better. The RA30 has never disappointed, requiring minimal maintenance, and the dealer, Sleator Plant, has been responsive and efficient. It's a well-made, robust, and reliable machine, and I would not hesitate to choose Rockback again in the future."
Image: The growing demand for dust suppression in the North American market has spurred innovative applications: Hedex has modified the RA30/RA40 platform to create large-capacity water trucks.
Through a partnership with Rockback dealer Hills Machinery, these trucks equipped with high-performance water tanks have been deployed in quarries, mines, and infrastructure projects.
"This demonstrates how a mature platform can meet urgent needs," noted Robert Franklin, Sales Director for the Americas at Rockback. "The RA30/RA40 provides contractors with the power, maneuverability, and durability expected of a basic machine, and this modification highlights the platform's strong scalability."

Frequent appearances at industry exhibitions, strong sales performance.
Other highlights this year included in-depth exchanges with customers and dealers at industry exhibitions.
At Nigeria Mining Week, the RA40 exhibited by Rockback and its West African dealer HMD attracted significant attention. With its reliable and durable characteristics, the Scottish-made articulated truck has quickly proven its investment value in African mining, quarrying, and major infrastructure projects.
At the beginning of the year, at the Cape Town Mining Investment Conference in South Africa, Rockback and HMD also connected with numerous contractors.
"The mining, quarrying, and construction sectors in West Africa have performed strongly, and we see a wealth of opportunities," said Guy Wilson, Global Sales Director at Rockbacker. "The region has performed exceptionally well this year and is expected to continue growing next year."
Furthermore, the RA30's debut at the Lyon construction machinery exhibition in France and Balmoral, Northern Ireland's largest agricultural machinery exhibition, demonstrates Rockbacker's continued commitment to the French market.
