Major manufacturers of world mining vehicles (Part I)

Jun 20, 2018

After decades of development, the mine truck has formed six big tycoons. The main manufacturers include American Caterpillar (Caterpillar), American TEREX - UNITRIG, Hitachi - Ukley de (HITACHI-EUCLID), Japanese pine (KOMATSU), German Liebherr (Liebherr), and Belarus Belas (Belaz). These manufacturers occupy more than 90% of the international market share, with an annual output of nearly 1000 units, with an output value of about US $2 billion. In supporting parts: mine vehicle engines mainly come from Cummings, Detroit and Carter. The electric drive system mainly comes from GE and SIEMENS. Tire suppliers are mainly Michelin, Bridgestone and Goodyear.

Ukley de (Euclid) was the first enterprise to develop dump trucks. In 1907, George Amington (G.A.Armington) founded electric hoist company in Wycliff, Ohio. Two years later, the factory moved to Ohio, and the name of the company was also changed to Euclid crane company. Since 1924, he has been involved in scrapers, rollers, bulldozers and other businesses. George's son, Arthur Amington, founded the Euclid Road Construction Machinery Co., Ltd. in 1931, due to the need to transport a large number of earthworks in the road construction project. In 1931, the land transport vehicle was mainly developed. The Euclid-1Z type hydraulic dump truck, launched in January 1934, has a capacity of 14 tons. Since then, the company has grown rapidly and has become a famous truck manufacturer by 50s. In 1951, he launched the world's largest Euclid-1LLD dump truck, with a load of 50 tons, three axle 10 wheel chassis and two Cummins engines with a total power of 375 horsepower.

In 1953, GM offered $20 million to acquire Ukley De to enter the market for earthmoving machinery. In 1958, the 3 axle 1LLD dump truck was extended to 5 axle 18 wheeled Western 80 dump truck with a capacity of 150 tons. However, at that time, the US Department of Justice filed an antitrust suit against General Motors. GM was forced to sell Ukley De to White Motor Co in 1968, but retained the construction machinery business. This part has gradually developed into general's earthwork equipment department. In 1977, White sold Ukley De to Daimler Benz Corp. Until 1993, Ukley de finally transferred to the Hitachi construction machine name, and the two sides set up a Ukley de Hitachi heavy equipment company, which mainly produced the EH series of mining vehicles. The largest model is EH5000, with a self weight of 213 tons and a load of 286 tons. The AC drive technology developed by Hitachi and SIEMENS is developed.

Unit Rege (Unit Rig), founded in 1935, was founded by the founder of Tulsa, Oklahoma, four oil merchants, who produced drilling equipment. During World War II, the company produced a large number of military products. In 1963, uni tiger and GE company began to mass produce M85 type 77 ton (85 short ton) electric wheel dump truck. As of 1983, the company's representative Mark-36 (154 tons) electric wheel vehicle sales amounted to 783 units. In 1988, it was incorporated into the TEREX group in the United States. In 1995, the MT4400 electric wheel dump truck with a capacity of 236 tons was launched. By 1998, he bought German O&K and merged it with TEREX to become a major branch of the group. Unit Rege's product line mainly includes mine dump trucks and bottom dump trucks, and its total sales volume exceeds 4500 units. Its largest model is the MT6300 launched in 2007, with a self weight of 236 tons and a capacity of 363 tons. It is the largest mining truck in the world. In December 2009, the US mining machinery giant, Unit Rege, was announced to invest $1 billion 300 million in the acquisition of TEREX mining sector.

Caterpillar (Caterpillar) is the world's largest construction machinery manufacturer. Before and after 1885, Benjamin Holt (Benjamin Holt) and Daniel Best (Daniel Best) founded their own companies, at that time the main production of steam tractors, thresher, combine harvesters and other agricultural machinery. Wheeled tractors are easily trapped in soft soil. In 1904, Holt developed the world's first crawler type steam tractor. Best developed the world's first crawler type steam bulldozer. After the track is applied, the development of construction machinery is greatly promoted. In 1908, when Best retired, he sold the company to Holt. In 1910, Holt was inspired by a photographer and registered the Caterpillar logo (caterpillar). In 1914, the war broke out, and Holt made tens of thousands of tractors and bulldozers for European and American military forces, used to pull artillery, transport troops and dig trenches. Britain also invented a tank based on tracked tractor. After the first World War, Caterpillar was already synonymous with high quality machinery. In April 15, 1925, Holt's company was formally restructured into a Caterpillar Inc.

The Second World War and post-war reconstruction have doubled the scale of Caterpillar's construction machinery business. By 1960, Caterpillar had developed into a huge multinational group. In 1962, Caterpillar entered the field of mine trucks. The first product was a 769 dump truck loaded 35 tons and began mass production in 1963. In 1964, the 779 prototype truck loaded 68 tons was launched in 1967, and it was formally mass produced in 1967. In October 1965, Caterpillar introduced the 786 type 240 ton bottom dump truck, which was the world's largest truck. In the great development of the electric locomotive, Caterpillar always insisted on mechanical transmission. After 80s, Caterpillar competed fiercely with its rivals. In 1983, it launched a 785 prototype truck with a load of 138 tons. In 1986, the 789 dump truck loaded with 177 tons was launched. In 1991, a 793 type dump truck with a load of 218 tons was launched. In 1998, the 779 type dump truck with a capacity of 326 tons was introduced. It was the largest mining vehicle in the world at that time. In 2002, it was upgraded to 797B, and its load capacity was increased to 345 tons. In 2008, it was upgraded to 797F with a capacity of 363 tons, and is still the world's largest mining vehicle. In addition to mechanical transmission, Caterpillar also introduced a series of AC transmission models in 2008, such as 793F AC with 227 tons of load and 795F AC with 313 tons of load.
