Three of the world's largest liquefied natural gas tanks were lifted on September 7

Sep 08, 2022

CNOOC Jiangsu Yancheng "green energy port" is a key planning project for the construction and interconnection of the national natural gas production, supply, storage and marketing system. It is also the largest liquefied natural gas terminal project in the world. This morning (September 7), three of them were independently designed and built by China, and the world's largest 270000 cubic meters of liquefied natural gas storage tanks will be lifted synchronously.

Simultaneous lifting of three world's largest LNG tanks

CCTV reporter Zhang Wei: at the construction site of CNOOC Yancheng "green energy port" in Binhai Port Industrial Park, Yancheng City, Jiangsu Province, 270000 cubic meters of liquefied natural gas storage tanks will be lifted. The storage tank dome, which covers an area of about one standard football field and weighs nearly 1200 tons, will be lifted to a height of 60 meters by using a fan system. Successful lifting means that the main structure of the storage tank is basically completed.

CNOOC Yancheng "green energy port" phase I project has built four 220000 cubic meters of storage tanks and six 270000 cubic meters of storage tanks, with a total tank capacity of 2.5 million cubic meters. The dome lifting of the storage tank is the construction process with the greatest technical difficulty and the highest safety factor requirement during the construction of the storage tank.

Li Deqiang, deputy commander in chief of lifting of CNOOC Yancheng "green energy port" project: we accurately control parameters such as air pressure, speed and offset rate of tank lifting through four systems of balance guidance, tank sealing, lifting power and intelligent monitoring, so as to fully ensure the safety and stability of air pressure lifting.

After the "green energy port" of CNOOC Yancheng is fully put into operation at the end of 2023, the annual LNG processing capacity will reach 6 million tons, equivalent to 8.5 billion cubic meters of gaseous natural gas, which can be used for the people's livelihood in Jiangsu Province for about 28 months.

Yang Yong, deputy general manager of CNOOC Power Group: we will actively promote the planning and construction of large and super large liquefied natural gas tanks. There are 11 tanks under construction in Zhuhai, Ningbo and other places, contributing to the protection of national energy security.

Air lift technology: lift the 1000 ton dome to 60 meters

How can a large dome with a diameter of about 100 meters and a weight of nearly 1200 tons be lifted to the top of a 60 meter tank? Most people's first reaction must be "lifting". In the past, small tanks were usually lifted, but now the dome of large tanks is often thousands of tons, which makes it too difficult to lift, so a more efficient and safe new lifting technology - "air lift roof" was adopted.

"Air lift up" means that the dome of the LNG storage tank is slowly lifted to the predetermined position on the top of the storage tank by the air pressure by using the fan system to fit with the pressure ring on the tank top. Raising the dome requires at least 500000 cubic meters of air, which is equivalent to filling 700 million football balls in it. In order to "blow" this behemoth to a height of 60 meters, the construction personnel installed four 110 kW blowers as the power system.

In order to ensure that the dome will not tilt or overturn during the process, a balanced guide system consisting of 24 sets of steel wire ropes and pulley blocks is evenly distributed along the circumference of the tank to ensure that the tank is lifted according to the design route during the lifting process. At the same time, pressure and displacement detection systems are also installed on the outer tank wall and dome to ensure that the dome reaches the design position safely and smoothly through real-time monitoring by the digital intelligent monitoring platform.

When the dome is raised to a predetermined position, the construction personnel weld it to the top of the tank wall while maintaining the pressure in the tank, and finally complete the lifting.
