UAV monitoring, remote excavators, operators have some new stories about 5G.

At the MWC Shanghai fair, which has just closed this year, the concept of 5G, which has been advertised by operators, chips and mobile phones last year, has finally had some practical applications, but they are not directly related to consumers.

The exhibition area of China Mobile is the largest in the whole exhibition. Almost half of the exhibition area is used to display relevant contents of 5G after being commercially available. In the most entrances, China Mobile showed the application of 5G and UAV combination for face recognition security monitoring using high-definition video.

Because the transmission rate of the 5G theory can reach 1 Gb per second, the HDD camera on the UAV can carry out real-time 4K video transmission. This picture enables the video processing platform to quickly understand the information of the person's identity, clothing, height and so on through the face recognition.


China Mobile demonstrated the multi-channel 4K HD video recorded by the outfield UAV through the 5G network, and through the control terminal on the site to take off and landing and other 5G network over the horizon control. The demo told us that the UAV can also be disliked at high altitude because of the ability to recognize and lock the face. The target is used in security tracking and so on.

Another 5G application highlighted by China Mobile is also for enterprises, and remotely controls excavators through 5G.

In the demonstration area, China Mobile moved the excavator's cockpit to the scene. The operator can directly control an excavator far away in Shijiazhuang, Shanghai, at the exhibition site in Shandong.

Similar to the analog racing game, the operator placed 4 screens in front of the operator to display the high definition real-time picture taken by the camera in the remote mining fuselage and let the operator understand the construction environment through the 5G network.



At the same time, the hydraulic dug control console has also installed a control module based on 5G communication, which is mainly due to the low delay of 5G transmission, which allows the operator to control the excavator located in Shandong almost without delay.

In the demonstration, the remote excavator carried forward, backward and excavated the sand pile in front of the operation. From the image on the screen, there was almost no obvious delay.

China Mobile interpreters explained the purpose of developing this 5G application, as excavators generally work outside, and in special weather such as the summer, the driver in the small cockpit will be working at a high temperature for a long time and needs a rest after a period of work.

Through the 5G remote control excavator, skilled operators can carry out remote control in the air-conditioned room near the construction site, which can increase working time.

Conceptually, this technology developed on the basis of low latency characteristics of 5G has a certain industrial application prospect. At present, all countries have high temperature and other regulations for outdoor work and construction industry. For example, the United States requires heavy workers to work 15 minutes per hour when the temperature is about 30 degrees Celsius, and it must rest 45 minutes.

If remote remote excavator can increase the working time of operator 25%, it means that the same amount of work can save the labor cost of 1/4, and also avoid the limit of outdoor high temperature working time. This is attractive for enterprises pursuing cost and efficiency and putting emphasis on input output ratio.

China Mobile has also demonstrated its cooperation with SAIC, based on the characteristics of 5G vehicle networking, such as low latency and high bandwidth, in the remote driving of vehicle formation. The remote driver remotely controls the outfield vehicle through the 5G network.

According to the commentary on the scene, the technology could only be controlled by bicycle last year, and it has been able to control the formation this year.


Understanding the location of the UAV through 5G transmission

The China Telecom has shown the VR ultra high definition video transmission, and the use of 5G high-speed transmission features for VR games and other applications, save the time to download and install.

Unicom also demonstrated the intelligent driving of real vehicle based on 5G network remote monitoring and dispatching. The dispatcher dispatched 1300 kilometers away from the MWC exhibition hall to demonstrate the scene of the Beijing motorcade. The remote driving and fleet scheduling were achieved through video images.

It can be seen that the main 5G operators' prospects for this technology have been put on the application of industry, vehicle networking and so on. The main reason is the difference in consumer value between 5G and 4G.

When the 4G LTE network was launched in 2013, the speed of mobile Internet access was not fast enough. High definition video, video and game applications make high-speed mobile networks an important demand. This is the reason why 4G was still heavily used by consumers in spite of its high fees.

But when the speed of the 4G network and the ability to watch and download high definition video, faster and lower 5G networks are not so attractive to consumers, when the 5G technology that can get a good movie in 1 seconds, when can be upgraded to real unlimited, the speed free 4G is the consumer.  More concerned.

So, at this year's MWC Shanghai exhibition, it is obvious that operators have begun to talk about the use of 5G in industry, Internet of vehicles and Internet of things.

For mobile phone manufacturers, the advantages of 5G mobile phones are obvious. On the one hand, it can increase the selling point of mobile phones and increase sales. On the other hand, the operators will pay a large amount of promotion fees to the mobile terminal manufacturers in the early stage of the new network promotion. The design companies based on the chip will also subsidize the manufacturers. These subsidies are very important to the mobile phone manufacturers who have become increasingly small profits.

In the second half of 2017 to the beginning of 2018, Qualcomm, Bo Tong, and Intel have already announced the 802.11ax chipset, in which Intel has significantly increased the force on the 5G chip.

In June of this year, Intel announced that it began testing mass production of 5G chip baseband, and first worked with DELL, HP, Lenovo and Microsoft to arrange 5G chips on PC. Since the year did not pay attention to the mobile market, the 4G era Lee Indira ter in the baseband chip market share is very little, high Qualcomm in 2017 base band share even reached 53%, which is the reason why Intel is eager to layout in the 5G era.

Ericsson, HUAWEI, ZTE, Verizon, AT&T, apple and other mobile phone manufacturers are also on the list of Intel partners, at present, the baseband of iPhone is provided by high pass, Intel two manufacturers, it is said that after entering the 5G era, apple is likely to go to Tonghua completely.
