Bomag has released an updated version of its BW 213 single-drum roller, equipped with the new "VarioControl" intelligent compaction system. In traditional soil compaction, operators must manually guess the correct vibration settings, often leading to over-compaction (which crushes the soil aggregate) or under-compaction. The VarioControl system utilizes a sensor integrated into the drum's bearing to measure the stiffness of the ground continuously.
As the soil density increases, the system automatically adjusts the drum's eccentric weights to reduce the impact force. This is critical when compacting granular materials where excessive vibration can destroy the soil structure. Furthermore, the system features "Anti-Bounce" technology. When the drum starts to bounce (due to the soil becoming too hard for the vibration setting), the system detects the loss of contact within milliseconds and instantly reduces the vibration amplitude. This prevents the drum from hammering the machine's frame and engine, significantly extending the life of the roller's components and improving operator comfort.
