Hyundai Construction Equipment has introduced an upgraded version of its "Hi-Mate" remote management system, specifically optimized for the rental and finance markets. In the rental industry, asset security and maintenance timing are the two biggest cost factors. The new Hi-Mate system utilizes a dedicated LTE communication module that remains active even when the machine's main battery is disconnected, powered by a small backup lithium cell.
The core engineering innovation is the "Hydraulic Oil Life Index" (HOLI) algorithm. Traditionally, hydraulic oil changes are scheduled based on engine running hours (e.g., every 2,000 hours). However, actual oil degradation depends heavily on the workload. A machine digging in hard rock degrades oil faster than one loading sand. The Hi-Mate system monitors the "Hydraulic Oil Temperature" and "Pump Case Drain Flow" in real-time. Using a mathematical model, it calculates the "Thermal Stress" accumulated on the oil. When the calculated oxidation limit is reached, the system sends an alert to the fleet manager to change the oil, preventing premature component failure.
Furthermore, the system features an advanced "Anti-Theft Geofence." The machine can be locked to a specific GPS coordinate radius. If the machine is towed outside this radius without a digital "Work Permit" key, the system triggers a "Hydraulic Lockout." It sends a signal to the main controller to close the solenoid valves on the main pump and swing motor, rendering the machine immobile. The system also provides a "Remote Throttle Limit" function, allowing rental companies to limit the engine speed to low idle if the customer delays payment, protecting the asset without physically repossessing it.
