Sany Unveils “Tunnel-Adaptive” Intelligent Excavator System for High-Altitude Operations

Jul 29, 2026

Sany Heavy Industry has officially launched a specialized "Tunnel-Adaptive" intelligent system for its SY215H and SY365H excavators, targeting the booming railway and water tunnel construction market. Tunnel construction presents unique challenges: poor visibility, high concentrations of harmful gases (like carbon monoxide and nitrogen oxides), and extremely confined operating spaces where the machine body is prone to collision with the tunnel wall or arch.

The Tunnel-Adaptive system is an engineering suite centered on "Environmental Perception and Active Safety." First, the machine is equipped with a high-precision "Laser Navigation Ring" mounted on the counterweight. This creates a 360-degree digital model of the tunnel wall. The system calculates the "Remaining Swing Space" in real-time. If the distance between the counterweight and the tunnel wall drops below 30 cm, the system automatically triggers a "Soft Limit" on the swing motor, slowing the rotation. If the distance drops below 10 cm, the system engages the swing parking brake to prevent impact.

Secondly, the system features a "Dynamic Air Quality Management" module. An array of industrial-grade gas sensors is integrated into the cab's air intake system. When the concentration of CO or NOx exceeds safety thresholds, the system automatically switches the cab to "Positive Pressure Mode" (like an aircraft cockpit), preventing external contaminated air from entering. Simultaneously, it sends a signal to the engine ECU to derate the engine power, reducing exhaust emissions while maintaining essential hydraulic functions, ensuring the safety of underground personnel.
