XCMG Introduces “Electric-First” Architecture for New Generation Aerial Work Platforms

XCMG has released its new "Electric-First" architecture for the GTJZ series articulated boom lifts, moving away from traditional hydraulic transmission. In standard electric booms, the hydraulic pump runs at high speed continuously, draining the battery. XCMG's new system utilizes a "Distributed Drive Axle" design where the electric motor is directly integrated into the drive wheel hub, eliminating the energy losses associated with long hydraulic lines.

A key engineering innovation is the "Proportional Regeneration Braking" logic. When the operator releases the drive joystick, the system doesn't just cut power; it switches the wheel motors into generator mode. The hydraulic steering and boom functions act as a controlled load, providing braking resistance while generating current to recharge the battery. The system uses a high-voltage (80V) lithium battery pack with an "Active Balancing" Battery Management System (BMS). This system monitors the temperature and voltage of individual cells. If one cell group gets too hot during rapid charging (opportunity charging), the BMS actively diverts current to cooler cells, preventing thermal runaway.

Furthermore, the machine features a "Variable Speed Adaptive Pump." The hydraulic pump for the boom functions (lift/telescope) is decoupled from the drive motor. It only runs when hydraulic pressure is demanded, significantly reducing "parasitic load" on the engine during travel. This dual-power-path design ensures the machine can travel up 40% gradients while maintaining full hydraulic function, solving a common bottleneck in rough-terrain boom lifts.
