Due to the impact of the new crown epidemic, India’s JCB sales continued to decline. To this end, JCB India has laid off 400 people.
According to reports, JCB India has a total of about 8,000 employees, including 4,000 permanent employees. The epidemic has caused all contract workers and temporary workers to lose their jobs.
JCB has a strong market share in the Indian construction equipment sector, especially in certain market segments such as backhoe loaders and crawler excavators.
India entered a "blockade" state on March 24 and did not take action until recently to relax some restrictions.
As a result of the new crown epidemic, the construction equipment industry has been adversely affected like many other industries. Due to the slowdown in construction activity, there was little demand for construction equipment in April.
"We expect that the demand for products in May and June will drop by approximately 80% from the same period last year. Therefore, our business has been severely affected." Subir Kumar Chowdhury, Managing Director and CEO of JCB India.
JCB India has five factories in India, producing and manufacturing various equipment not only for India but also for the global market.
About 40 years ago, JCB launched a backhoe loader in India and has since expanded its product range to more than 50 different models in 8 product categories.
The main facilities include the Ballabgarh plant near New Delhi, which produces backhoe loaders and is also the headquarters of JCB India. In addition, it also produces skid steer loaders, telehandlers, diesel generators and diesel engines.
In Pune there are also facilities for manufacturing crawler excavators, wheel loaders, compaction equipment and manufacturing for the group and design centers.
JCB recently announced that employment is also at risk in the UK.
