Shantui has equipped its SD16T crawler dozer with the "Smart-Tilt" blade management system. In forestry clearing and rocky subgrade preparation, dozing through hidden boulders is the leading cause of catastrophic track derailment and rear-axle driveline snap. Operators often cannot visually distinguish between a soft dirt mound and a buried granite boulder, forcing them to either guess and use manual blade pitch to ride over the obstacle or risk a sudden dead-stop that spins the tracks off the rollers.
The Smart-Tilt system integrates an "Acoustic Ground-Penetrating Radar" into the dozer blade structure. The engineering innovation is the "Sub-Surface Density Look-Ahead." The radar emits a low-frequency acoustic pulse into the soil ahead of the blade, mapping the density profile to detect the leading edge of buried rock boulders up to 0.5 meters in depth. If the system detects an unyielding bedrock boulder, the ECU preemptively commands the hydraulic pitch cylinders to tilt the blade upward by 2 degrees.
This micro-pitch adjustment allows the cutting edge to ride smoothly up and over the rock surface, sliding the boulder aside without altering the machine's straight tracking trajectory. By avoiding the sudden zero-momentum impact, the system prevents track tear-out and mechanical overload of the transmission and final drive, increasing rocky-site clearing productivity by 22% and eliminating driveline shock failures.
