Shantui has launched a major upgrade to its SR series single-drum vibratory rollers, integrating an "Intelligent Compaction" (IC) system that fundamentally changes how soil foundation work is managed. In traditional compaction, operators rely on rudimentary methods like counting passes, which often leads to inconsistent density-some areas are under-compacted, while others are over-compacted, crushing the soil aggregate and reducing stability.
The new system is centered around an "Acceleration Stiffness Sensor" mounted directly on the vibratory drum housing. As the drum impacts the ground, the rebound acceleration is measured 100 times per second. The system correlates this data with the machine's GPS position to create a "Compaction Heat Map" displayed in the cab. The core innovation, however, is the closed-loop feedback to the hydraulic system. If the sensor detects that the soil stiffness has reached the target modulus (indicating full compaction), the system automatically reduces the centrifugal force of the drum. This prevents the drum from "bouncing" on the hard surface, a phenomenon that creates destructive shock loads on the drum bearings and the machine's frame.
Additionally, the system features a "Soft-Start" logic. When the operator engages the vibration on soft soil, the system ramps up the vibration frequency gradually instead of instantaneously. This prevents the drum from digging into the ground and stalling the engine, ensuring smooth operation and extending the lifespan of the rubber dampers in the drum isolator by up to 40%.
