XCMG Launches “Dual-Power” Hybrid Loader for High-Intensity Loading Operations

XCMG has released a new hybrid version of its ZL50GN wheel loader, featuring a "Parallel Hydraulic Hybrid" (PHH) system designed specifically for the high-cycle, short-distance loading operations found in aggregate yards and ports. Unlike electric hybrids that require heavy batteries and long charging times, the PHH system uses a high-pressure accumulator to store energy, similar to a mechanical spring.

The engineering principle relies on "Regenerative Braking." When the loader approaches a truck to dump a load, the operator releases the accelerator. In a standard loader, this kinetic energy is lost as heat through the service brakes. In the PHH system, the transmission output shaft engages a hydraulic pump/motor unit that acts as a pump. It forces oil into the accumulator, compressing the nitrogen gas inside and storing the braking energy. When the operator accelerates to reverse out of the truck, the accumulator releases the pressurized oil back through the pump/motor, which now acts as a motor, assisting the diesel engine.

This "torque assist" significantly reduces the load on the engine during the most fuel-intensive phase of the cycle-acceleration from a standstill. The system is controlled by a dedicated "Power Manager" ECU that seamlessly blends the power from the accumulator and the engine. This results in a faster "V-cycle" time (load-dump-return) and a measurable fuel saving of 4-5 liters per hour in intense operation. The system is also "charge-sustaining," meaning it requires no external power source, making it a "drop-in" replacement for standard diesel loaders.
