Doosan Bobcat Previews RogueX3 Modular Autonomous Electric Machine at CES 2026

Oct 02, 2026

Doosan Bobcat used its CES 2026 appearance to showcase "RogueX3," a fully electric, autonomous concept machine designed to signal the company's long-term direction for flexible compact construction equipment. Although RogueX3 is a concept rather than a production machine, its design philosophy-modularity, autonomy, and electric power-directly addresses emerging market demands in logistics, landscaping, and infrastructure maintenance where labor shortages and multi-task flexibility are increasingly critical.

The RogueX3's engineering concept centers on "Configurable Modularity." Rather than a fixed machine architecture, the platform allows interchangeable components: an operator cab can be fitted or removed entirely (for fully autonomous operation), the undercarriage can be configured with either wheels or tracks depending on ground conditions, and the lift-arm geometry can be adapted for different attachment families. This modularity would allow a single chassis to be reconfigured as a compact wheel loader, a tracked skid-steer, or a telehandler, depending on the job-site requirement.

The machine's autonomy is based on a "360-Degree Camera View Array" combined with "Collision Warning and Avoidance Alerts" and real-time machine performance monitoring. The operator interface-when the cab is fitted-features a "Smart Display" that provides jobsite feature visualization, real-time asset tracking, and simultaneous display of multiple data streams. When the machine operates autonomously, the system navigates using the camera array and an onboard AI-based perception system that detects obstacles, classifies ground conditions, and plans a safe path to the task location. Though RogueX3 is not yet commercially available, it reflects the direction in which the compact construction equipment industry is moving: toward machines that are simultaneously electric, autonomous, and adaptable to a wide range of tasks without requiring separate dedicated assets.
