Linde Material Handling has expanded its Xi series electric counterbalance forklift family with the Xi16–Xi20 RP ("Roadster") variants, a distinctive configuration built around maximizing all-round visibility and maneuverability in environments where forklifts and pedestrians share the same floor space. Traditional counterbalance forklifts position the mast channels directly in front of the operator, creating a vertical blind zone that obscures the lower portion of the forward view - a persistent safety challenge in retail back-of-store, pharmaceutical distribution, and food logistics operations where narrow aisles and foot traffic coexist.
The Xi RP's engineering breakthrough is the "Mast-Less Visibility Architecture." Instead of the conventional two-stage mast channels blocking the operator's forward view, the Xi RP places its tilt cylinders at the overhead position - above the operator's head - and routes the lift chains to a compact carriage that leaves the lower two-thirds of the operator's forward field of view completely unobstructed. The operator's eye level looks directly through the load backrest to the ground, allowing direct visual contact with pedestrians, rack legs, and floor obstacles ahead of the truck without needing to peer around mast channels.
The machine integrates "Linde Curve Assist," which automatically reduces travel speed when cornering based on the steering wheel's angle, providing progressive speed limiting that adapts to each turn's tightness - reducing lateral-tip risk when carrying loads at height. Combined with the low center of gravity inherent in the Xi architecture and the overhead tilt cylinder's wider stance, the Xi RP delivers stability characteristics closer to a sit-down counterbalance truck while retaining the compact footprint and maneuverability of a three-wheel forklift. The Xi series' latest 12 models also feature an integrated lithium-ion battery - eliminating the battery-change bay, ventilation requirements, and opportunity-charging constraints of traditional lead-acid installations - allowing 24/7 multi-shift operation in dense logistics environments.
