XCMG Unveils “Intelligent Paver” with 3D Floating Screed Technology

Jul 23, 2026

XCMG has officially launched the RP903 series intelligent paver, equipped with a revolutionary "3D Floating Screed" system. In traditional asphalt paving, achieving the correct road profile (longitudinal slope and cross-fall) relies heavily on surveyors setting up string lines (grade stakes) and operators manually adjusting the screed height. This process is labor-intensive and prone to human error, resulting in uneven road surfaces that collect water.

The RP903's new system utilizes a "Non-Contact Ultrasonic Leveling System" combined with a "Hydraulic Floating Cylinder." Two ultrasonic sensors are mounted on the left and right sides of the screed, referencing a ground-level string line or a laser reference plane. These sensors feed data to an ECU that controls the leveling cylinders.

The engineering breakthrough lies in the "Floating Logic." The screed is not rigidly fixed; it "floats" on a hydraulic oil cushion. When the sensor detects the road base rising, the ECU commands the leveling cylinder to extend, lifting the screed. However, the system calculates the "Inertia" of the screed. If the correction is too fast, the asphalt mat will tear. The system uses a proportional valve to meter the oil flow, ensuring the screed rises smoothly over several meters rather than jerking up instantly. Additionally, the screed features an "Auto-Heating Management" system. It monitors the temperature of the screed plate via PT100 sensors. If the temperature drops below 130°C (risking the asphalt sticking to the plate), the system automatically increases the burner flame intensity. If it exceeds 170°C (risking burning the asphalt mix), it reduces the fuel injection rate. This ensures the asphalt mix adheres perfectly to the screed plate, providing a smooth, dense texture to the road surface without manual burner adjustments.
